Killarney Credit Union is calling on all young persons in the area to get involved in their local credit union.
The credit union this week launched its Youth Advisory Council which is targeted at individuals aged 16 and 22 and who want play an active part of and participate in their local credit union.
The programme which has been run successfully for a number of years in the credit union allows young people to join a Youth Advisory Council which involves participation in a group led credit union project and meeting with staff, volunteers, board. The Credit Union also provides ongoing training and support for the programme participants during their time on the Youth Advisory Council.
Speaking about the programme, Catherine Coffey, Youth Officer, Killarney Credit Union said “this project has been highly successful within Killarney Credit Union Ltd with benefits for both the young people taking part and the credit union. It is aimed at giving those involved skills such as communication, team work, committee skills to name a few. At the same time the credit union benefits in discovering how to make the credit union more accessible for the future” she concluded.
The time commitment to the Youth Advisory Council is limited to 1-2 monthly meetings and there are no costs associated with participation in the programme.
Mark Murphy, CEO, Killarney Credit Union stated “we want the credit union to be relevant to the youth market, and the YAC is a mechanism whereby we can get feedback from this very important group. We have over 2,000 members who are aged between 16 and 22 years and the YAC is there to develop our services in the future to meet their needs.” he concluded.
Applications for YAC are open for persons aged between 16-22 years. Membership is open to members/non-members of Killarney Credit Union. You can live/work in any of the common bond districts of Killarney, Fossa, Kilcummin, Glenflesk, Beaufort, Kilgarvan, Kenmare, Sneem, Kileentierna, Tuosist and Firies.
